I recently built a new machine and decided to use AMDs apu platform.
For those of you who dont know what a apu is, it is a processor and a gpu on the same die, its also a northbridge controller as well.

I recently purchased a A10-5800k, its a quad core processor thats clocked at 3.9ghz and a 7660d on die gpu, and it all only draws 100 watts of power. The apu can be paired with a comparable gpu for dual graphics capability, in my case it was a 6670 radeon.

The only downfall I see in this system is the fact that the onboard gpu uses system ram to run, but the faster the ram the more performace you get, I dont remember the exact number but jumping from 1600 to 1866 nets a 25% gain in gpu performance. The chip with a stock cooler posts some crazy temperatures for being a low draw cpu though, I sit at about 60c idle and jump up to 85-90c full load, and most other apu users are seeing a similar trend.

The performance has far surpassed my expectations, I have not ran fraps but have done the "yeah thats smooth enough to play test" and its kind of shocking. Bear in mind this cpu costs $120 retail and the gpu about $50 before rebates.

Skyrim on ultra 1920x1080
Euro Truck Simulator 2 on ultra 1920x1080 or medium with 5760x1080 in eyefinity
bfbc2 high 1920x1080

so far thats about all ive got to install since assembling but I have to say for the price point that those are pretty impressive, I may update this list a little later when some of my games finish downloading.

Overall Id say if youre on a budget and want to play some of the next gen games but dont want to shell out the cash right away, AMDs apus are the way to go and Im more than pleased with my results.

You should not have any problems with your PC.

Will give a good break in while gaming.

very interesting - its nice for a new built, most would need a new mobo with that apu - ... but can it handle crisis war-head ? - Im eying the 670 instead 49 fps 1920x1200 drop-in-ready - newegg has it for $354 after rebate

ill let you know on warhead tommorrow, i have that laying around.

It does bf3 on a mix of ultra and high. I guess I could grab a copy of fraps and get some numbers although I know the results get skewed crazy on apus. And yes you do need a new motherboard, fm2 socket, amd will stick with this one for the next couple years, the top of the line mobo ran me 100 bucks.
